A Brief History Mike
Seed has slowly been ploughing out his own musical route in
his own imitable and slightly strange way for 15 years now,
effortlessly shifting from the downright strange and experimental
to glorious pop songs and to what you'd call very dark folk
and back again... and more often than not all within the same
song. 1991-1994 - Ways of Stephen
Ways of Stephen were a Lo-Fi Psychedelic Country Folk Rock Pop band, go and visit the site to listen to about 50 or so of
their songs.
1991-2 ish - the shambelahs.
Demented Ron Johnson/Fire Engines/Bogshed/Cud/The Fall type band from the 80's. Ask him nicely and he'll
send you a disc.
1993-Present - The
Phantom Carriage.
Heaps of tape albums with Simon.
'Late Comers' album with Simon, The Palace Lido and Buggane.
'Skull Exposed to March Rain' album with The Palace Lido and Grinning Ape.
Solo stuff:-
1991 ish 'Ow That Hurts' and 'Bob's New Potatoes'
These tape albums are either evidence of insanity or a creative
outlet to avoid it, depending on your point of view.
After Ways of Stephen Mike retreated under the stairs and
played saxophone.... Then
releasing:-
2000 - Passing Trade album
2002 - Rookwood Dream album
2003 - Passing Into Mystery album
2004 - A Boy Mistaken For A Crow album
All released on Mike's own Skimpy Records.
2005 - Songs For The Wintering Show Troupe compilation album
2006 - [goodbyejuly] album
2008 - Aether Blues album

Reviews
"Takes folk music to a very dark, gloriously lo-fi and fantastic place indeed"
@ 17 Seconds
"Dark uneasy and on edge... there is not much like this around!"
"One of the darkest, most fucked up weird folk records I’ve heard in a while"
@ Hoodlum
Tribe
"This is a deeply moving, often harrowing collection of fiercely lo-fi folk music, and as such, nothing short of a minor masterpiece"
@ Comes
With A Smile
"The vague themes of darkness and solitude that Seed explores musically and lyrically on this release seem forced and unnatural"
@ Foxy Digitalis
