The Phantom Carriage albums released...

Two wonderfully dark and twisted albums from The Phantom Carriage are released today...
'Late Comers' was originally released in 2005 by the ever brilliant Anticlock Records, but has subsequently sold out.
It was described as "Dark uneasy and on edge... there is not much like this around!" and "One of the darkest, most fucked up weird folk records I’ve heard in a while".
We thought it was too bloody good not to be heard so is now available from us.

I'm incredibly happy to announce that there is also a brand new album available from us too.
'Skull Exposed to March Rain'...
Sparse, dark and unsettling are words that spring to mind.

Both albums can be downloaded absolutely free on The Phantom Carriage page here.

Mike Seed Album Released...

I'm very happy to announce that Mike Seed is about to release his second album for SVC following last years 'Songs For The Wintering Show Troupe'...
And it's bloody brilliant...
It's a whole lot noisier in places than 'Show Troupe', but Mike has also tapped in to the psychedelic Kinksian part of his brain and come up with some wonderfully jarred and twisted pop moments.

And as ever it’s three quid and comes with full print quality artwork, and there’s also another little treat zipped up with the album...
It’s a new little bit of technology called an Interactive Booklet that has been developed by by SVC designer extraordinaire Graeme Swinton.
(Mike’s keeping good company these days with Scott Walker and Depeche Mode eh!).

Here’s the booklet for you to download and view in iTunes or Quicktime...
Mike Seed - [goodbyejuly] Interactive Booklet (10.50MB .mov)

Visit Interactive Booklet.co.uk to find out more, or to see the flash version of the booklet in action.

Ape Destruction!

Ape Rules Fools Day. It can only mean one thing. Yes, it's time to go A.P.E!

The thwarted attempt by a lonely, bitter man to save the very music he loves by destroying it.

"What does not destroy me, makes me stronger." Nietzsche

Well we are very happy to say that 'The Greatest Ape' more than survived and SVC are extremely proud to release an electronic album recalling the glory days of B12, FUSE and Polygon Window. With gentle melody, languid waves of synthetic string and a tattered beat 'The Greatest Ape' shows clear signs of the Grinning Ape's abstracted talent. Essential.

'The Greatest Ape' will be released on April 1st 2006

Feedle Album Released...

"An amazing piece of music..." "Throbbing..." -Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1
"The most satisfying electronica album of the year... 9/10" - Drowned in Sound
"That certainly snapped me out of a lethargic mood..." - Steve Lamacq BBC Radio 1

I'm more than a little excited about this. If you like your music of the melodious electronics, ragged drunken beats and howling noise variety, then I can only assume you'll love this.

The albums called 'Leave Now For Adventure' and was recorded by Sheffield's Feedle, a man who knows a thing or two about making stunning, noisy yet beautiful music.
Read a little more about him here, or go and visit him at his website.

The Palace Lido website and new tracks

Not one but two new songs are available on the all new The Palace Lido website.
There's also some news, photographs and the odd bit of information that might be of interest.

I am reliably informed that the site will be frequently updated (don't they all say that?!) and new songs, info and photos will be added here, there and everywhere. There's also a couple of brand new Palace Lido remixes of SVC favourite Grinning Ape... more news on this one in the New Year.
If you have five seconds to spare you should pop along just for the new track 'Ronaldsway'.

An Introduction. Of Sorts

A huge hearty welcome to 'Spoilt Victorian Child Records' (from here on now known as SVC Records... Kind of rolls off the tongue a little better).
Basically the reason we set up SVC Records was after running the Spoilt Victorian Child mp3 blog for the last year we realised that there's so much great music out there that doesn't have a proper outlet, so here we are... SVC Records will not be a genre label concentrating on a certain type of music, but will be featuring and releasing music we love no matter what genre, as you can see by the first two releases.

Firstly we have a fantastic album from Mike Seed which compiles some of his favourite songs from his previous self released albums. Musically speaking it's quite varied, effortlessly veering from dark folk and strange country to slightlydelic pop, and quite often all within the same song.

Mike has been around releasing his own records for a good number of years now and is well respected by everyone who knows him and also by anyone who has ever had the pleasure of hearing his music or seeing him live, he's also had a fair amount of radio play by the likes of Andy Kershaw and the late very great John Peel.

And our second release is a whole different kettle of fish... It's a collection of tracks dating back from 99-01 by producer The Palace Lido most recently heard collaborating on The Phantom Carriage release. The Palace Lido moniker is one of many this artist uses and over the last ten years he has created a very diverse body of work over a wide range of styles. SVC Records are extremely pleased to release 'There's Not Enough Kindness' which as a collection was inspired by a line Beryl Reid said in the 60's lesbian thriller 'The Killing Of Sister George'.

So there you go, the first of many great releases on SVC Records, there are free tracks to be heard of each of the artists, and if you like what you hear then buying the release as a download is pretty harmless and only takes a minute. You can pay very securely by any major credit/debit card using PayPal, you'll then get an email from the PayPal authorised PayLoadz site with the download instructions. All the downloads are of a high quality (256 kbps) and come complete with full front, back and on disc artwork for you to print out yourself.

If you have any comments about the artists or site, or fancy sending us something then all the info you need can be found on the contact page.

Happy listening.
